Hi there!
My name is Shanelle and I teach in Coquitlam, BC. I've been teaching for 4 years and this is my fourth course of the PME program. I have experience teaching in various roles from K-8 and am currently teaching ELL and Music this year at two elementary schools. I am passionate about outdoor ed, SEL, and creating inclusive classrooms. I've bounced around a lot in positions, as well as schools, while building my seniority and have needed to quickly familiarize myself with curricular goals that pertain to specific grades and subjects. My ideal position is an intermediate classroom teacher, though I am grateful that I've had so much variety in my teaching career already.
I find that I tend to incorporate instruction and assessment strategies that work in a variety of contexts so I can adjust my instruction to match the grade or subject area that I am teaching. In terms of planning, I aim to organize units or curricular goals at the start of the year or term, and then work backwards to select instructing and assessment strategies that will ensure I cover everything. I'll admit that I am a still familiarizing myself with all aspects of BC's curriculum and look forward to exploring varied educational philosophies and how they are weaved into curricular conceptions throughout this course.
I am open to learning more about varied planning, teaching, and assessment strategies that I can incorporate into my practice. I look forward to gaining more insight on the overall planning process in this course and exploring how I can maximize the short interactions I have with my ELL and music students this year, as it is my first time in these roles.
In my spare time I love spending time outdoors, playing soccer, reading, cooking, baking, going to live performances, and discovering new music and podcasts.
I look forward to learning alongside you all and hope your New Year is off to a relaxing & safe start!
